Once you’ve drawn up your keyword list, it’s time to get them working in your favor. The way to do that is using the art of on-page SEO. As the name suggests, this is all about optimizing the content of your pages in the most favorable way.
In short, it’s about ensuring that you have all the right keywords in the right places. You simply need to insert keywords at appropriate points in your review. There are several important places to focus on.
This is the most critical factor of all, so don’t skimp here. All search engines take serious notice of the keywords included in titles. This means you will definitely want your main keyword in the title. For Squid Game, we’ve seen that the primary keyword is ‘the squid game,’ with 74,000 people searching for this phrase on Google alone.
Search engines ignore common words like ‘the,’ so we can reduce the keyword to ‘squid game.’ We definitely want to include this in our title.
But we also know that ‘netflix’ is an important keyword, so it helps if we can work this into our title, too. We can even go the whole hog and include a long keyword with ‘netflix’ in it, such as ‘Best shows to watch on netflix.’
We might write a title like this:
Squid Game: The Best Show to Watch on Netflix
Now we’re rocking! The search engines treat capital and lower-case letters as being the same. They also don’t differentiate between single and plural, so ‘show’ works just as well as ‘shows.’
Our title is in good shape, with both our main keyword and a long, alternative keyword included. Job done, so let’s move on to the next element.
After the title, your first paragraph of text is the next most important element. Search engines will use this text to understand what your review is all about, so you need to make good use of keywords here.
Best practice is to use your main keyword early on, ideally in the first sentence. Then include one or two additional keywords in subsequent sentences. Here’s an example of how that could look, with the keywords highlighted.
Squid Game has taken the world by storm, with many people saying it’s the best show to watch on Netflix. There’s no denying that it’s popular with millions of people bingeing on Squid Game episodes. In fact, it’s now the most watched Netflix series ever—which is quite an achievement.
There we managed to squeeze in four great search keywords. That’s just for demonstration purposes, though. In practice, two or three keywords in your first paragraph will do just fine.
Now you know how to include keywords into text, you can sprinkle keywords throughout your review in appropriate places. Remember to include those longer keywords, as well as the high-volume ones.
Don’t worry about fitting every single keyword on your list into the review. If you find that some keywords don’t fit, just leave them out.
While keywords are important, your readers are even more so. So you should always write with them in mind. A good review is easy and pleasant to read, so don’t make the mistake of trying to stuff too many keywords into a review.
You don’t want to end up with text that looks like this:
Squid Game has taken the world by storm, with many people saying Squid Game is the best show to watch on Netflix. There’s no denying that Squid Game is popular with millions of people bingeing on Squid Game episodes. In fact, Squid Game is now the most watched Netflix series ever—which is quite an achievement for Squid Game. So you need to watch Squid Game soon.
Keep things as natural as possible, writing for people first and search engines second. If including a keyword makes your text read awkwardly, take it out. Keeping readers happy is always your priority.
On-page SEO is easy to do, and it makes a real difference to your results. So remember to optimize every review in this way to set yourself on the road to SEO success.
