Profit from Writing Ads

A High-Income Opportunity

Now that you’ve learned how to write awesome reviews, you have a powerful ace up your sleeve. You’ve been learning the art of persuasion, discovering how to encourage people to read your write-ups, then go on to purchase products.

Just think how valuable that skill is. Companies worldwide are trying to sell products to consumers…and you know exactly how to do that. So it’s easy to see why businesses will happily pay you top dollar to persuade on their behalf.

You are ready to become a copywriter—a writer who specializes in the art and science of persuading people to buy. And you’ll be pleased to learn that good copywriters are very well paid.

Yep, really. You can make great money by helping companies with all kinds of advertising, including write the words (copy) for:

Google ads

Facebook ads

Instagram ads

LinkedIn ads

Twitter ads

Pinterest ads

Amazon ads

Microsoft ads

Reddit ads

Tik-Tok ads

And those are just the top 10 platforms for running ads—there are dozens more. Advertising is expensive, and no business wants to see good money go down the drain. So companies are happy to pay good copywriters to help them get results.

How to Find Ad Writing Jobs

Sounds good, you may be thinking, but how do I get my share of the big bucks? Luckily, there are lots of places you can search for ad writing jobs.

The easiest way to get started is to sign up with the major freelance marketplaces, such as:

Upwork

Freelancer

Guru

All of these are great places for finding writing work. Every day, dozens of companies post requests for ad writers, giving you endless opportunities. All you need to do is apply and show what you are capable of.

Another way to find ad writing work is to join Fiverr as a seller. We’ve already talked about using Fiverr to buy products, but you can also use it to sell your services. Start a free seller account then create ‘gigs’ that you offer to the community.

If you take this approach, it’s a good idea to have a gig for each writing niche. So instead of creating a single gig that offers all kinds of writing services, be more specific. Create one gig offering to write Google ads, another for Facebook ads…and so on.

You will find that this is much more effective, bringing you lots of quality leads who may turn into high-paying clients.

Facebook groups are also great for finding writing work. You can join a group like ‘The Cult of Copy Jobs Board’ free of charge. Simply check back every day to see what new jobs have been posted. Many ad writers have built a full-time career this way.

You can also reach out to companies in your area by email and offer to help them with their marketing. Most business owners have no clue how to write ads, so you can do them a big favor by helping out.

In short, there are many different ways to find ad writing projects. Just get to work and make things happen.

How to Write Great Ads

There’s a lot of money to be made writing ads, but naturally you need to be good at what you do. So here are some tips to help you produce quality work from day one.

1. Focus on ‘What’s Different?’

So, what will make potential customers buy your company’s product or service versus going with a competitor? That’s what you have to figure out and focus on with your advert. Show prospects why your business is their number one choice

In other words, you need to define the Unique Selling Proposition (USP).  Each advertisement must make a valuable offer to the consumer, saying ‘buy this product to get this specific benefit.’

Here are some good examples of products with a clear USP:

Head & Shoulders: “Get rid of dandruff”

Anacin: “Fast, fast, incredibly fast relief”

Domino’s Pizza: “Fresh, hot pizza delivered to your door in 30 minutes or less-or it’s free.”

FedEx: “When your package absolutely, positively has to get there overnight.”

M&Ms: “Melts in your mouth, not in your hand.”

Metropolitan Life: “Get Met. It Pays.”

Southwest Airlines: “The low-fare airline.”

2. Use A Powerful Headline: Grab Their Attention!

People scan things quickly. They come into contact with so many advertisements each day that they can’t possibly read each one. This is why you have to make sure that your advertisement grabs and keeps their attention.

You do that with an effective headline. The greatest advertising man in history, David Ogilvy, said “On average, five times as many people read the headline as read the body copy. When you have written your headline, you have spent eighty cents out of your dollar.”

The question you need to ask is “Who are you trying to attract? What would get their attention?”

Great headlines come in many forms. Ogilvy once remarked that he would write an advertisement in three hours and then take three weeks to come up with the headline.

Some headlines are newsworthy, such as in the release of a new service or product. Others have a very strong benefit. Most are specific, as opposed to general, in their facts. Others use a negative angle (such as “reducing costs” as opposed to “increasing profits”).

3. Make Them An Offer They Can’t Refuse!

Consumers love a bargain. So offer them a good one so that they’ll come back to you time and time again. Whether you’re offering an unbeatable price, a free trial, free shipping or a bundled package, going out of your way to provide your customers with a good deal will help you succeed.

Once you come up with your irresistible offer, make sure that you advertise it prominently. When people see that you have something great to offer them, they will have a difficult time resisting it.

4. Talk About The Benefits – What’s In It For Them?

Explaining the features of your products or services is important, but explaining the benefits for the customer is really what it’s all about. After all, people are more interested in what they get from your services than what you do.

Here’s what you do to figure this out for any product:

1. List everything that the product does (the features)

2. For each feature, explain how this helps the customer (the benefit)

3. Focus on the benefits that people desire the most

5. Make the Offer Risk-Free

People are nervous about spending their money. There are too many scammers and low-quality products out there. People worry that they’ll be wasting their hard-earned cash when it comes to many products and services

So it’s a great idea to offer a risk-free guarantee. Knowing there is no risk is a powerful purchasing inducement. This reverses the risk and places some of it on the seller.

6. Include a ‘Call To Action’

Don’t just tell your potential customers about what your company has to offer. Encourage them to take action. Tell them directly to click on your ad, order your product, pay for your service, etc.

For example, your ‘call to action’ can encourage people to email you for more information or to fill out a form to find out more about your services. It could direct users to click on your ad to take them to your website.

7. Give Them A Reason To Buy NOW!

You don’t want to just plant the seed with your ads, you want people to move forward and do something about your offer immediately.

When people see an ad and think about giving a company a try later, they might actually mean to do so. But, people most often move on with their lives and forget all about the ad and the product that they might have been interested in. So you have to encourage people to act now rather than later.

You can create this urgency in any number of ways. For example, you can make your irresistible offer time-limited. If people see that they only have a set amount of time, they will be more likely to make a move now than later.

That’s not the only way to create a sense of urgency. You can also limit the number of items available or offer a clearance sale. People don’t like to miss a bargain, so they will rush to beat other buyers.

8. Use Testimonials

A key element in persuading people to buy is the trust factor. People have a lot of concerns these days, particularly when they’re buying online. So you need to build trust in the business and its products. You can do this by showing that others have been pleased with their decision to buy.

Adding a genuine quote from a happy customer can really move the needle in the sale. It might be just enough to get more customers to place an order.

9. Use Exciting Graphics

Plain text on a simple background can be boring. People don’t always want to read everything that has been written in an ad or an article. So add a visual dimension by suggesting images that can be used together with your copy.

Your words and the images work hand in hand to bring the offer to life. This way, you can give people a much better understanding of what’s on offer and increase sales dramatically.

10. Tell stories

Everyone loves a good story, and they work exceptionally well in advertising. They are a great way to capture people’s attention and keep them interested.

Some of the most successful ads in history have been based around stories, and the technique still works very well today. One story-style ad for the Wall Street Journal is estimated to have generated over $2 billion in sales. That’s testament to how well this works!

There’s a lot of money to be made in the world of advertising, and you can certainly get your share. Get good at writing adverts and you will definitely be in the money.
